Step 1  Free talk

1. Greetings.

  Welcome back to school. Today we see each other again, are you happy? Now glad to see you, boys and girls.

2. Lead in.

T: What date is it today? Can you say something about it?

 S: It’s the first/ second of September. It’s the first / second day of the new term. And this is the first English lesson of the new term. ... ...

Step  2  Presentation and practise ( A )

1. （出示A部分第一张教学挂图）It is the first day of the new term. We are back to school. Look, our old friend Ben is coming, and who is this new boy? Where are they? And what are they doing?

2. Listen to the tape twice, then answer my questions.

3. Answer the questions. Who is the new boy? How old is he? Where are they? What are doing there?

4. The new boy is Ben's cousin, Jack.. He is only four years old and he always has a lot of questions. They are in the park. They see some public signs in the park. Jack is asking Ben some questions about them.

5. Look, read and learn: cousin, four years old, always, question, public, sign, ask/ answer.

6. Read the first paragraph after the tape.

7. Read freely and try to retell it.

Step  3 Presentation and practise ( B )

1. What public signs are they talking? Listen to them, please.

2. There are a lot of signs in the park. They mean different things. Do you know them? Can you say something about the signs?

3. Learn to read and say: mean different things, What does this sign mean? It means you/ we should/ must...

4. (Show the sing ' Danger!') Look at the sign on the wall. What does this sign mean? It means ' Danger!'. It means we can't go in, we must stay away from it.

5. Look, read and learn: danger, must, stay away from the building.

6. Parctise. There's a sign on the wall. What does it mean? It means 'Danger'. We can't go in. It means we must stay away from it.

7. Read after the tape.

Step  4  Read and say

1. Read Paragraph 1,2 freely or in pairs.

2. Read after the tape or teacher.

3. Read for us.

4. Read or retell.

5. Now we knew a lot about public signs. Yes? We should stay away from the dangerous, we shouldn’t walk on the grass. We must put the rubbish in the bin, we can’t litter.

Step  5  Homework

1. Listen and read the text.

2. Preview the next paragraph.
